China to expand resource tax nationwide
日期:10-07-12

China may expand the resource tax reform, a tax newly introduced on oil and gas drilling and other resource industries, from the former 12 western regions to nationwide, as to raise fund for the development of the poor western regions, Reuters reported.

China is now carrying out a pilot taxation in its oil-rich Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, and plans to expand it gradually to the whole country, said Du Ying, vice chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission.

"The reform will clearly increase the local fiscal income of the resource-rich western regions," Du said at a news conference.

Du also noted that the level of the tax, once expanded nationwide, might vary from product to product.

Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region produced about 13% of China’s crude oil in 2009, earlier last month, it has started to levy the resource tax at 5%, which is expected to raise RMB 4 billion to 5 billion a year. (China Knowledge)
